SHORT BIO

Butter and the Genre is a dynamic jazz band that blends timeless influences with a fresh, inviting sound. Led by Gregory "Butter" Haubrich, the band is known for its seamless instrumental harmonies and the soulful voice of Calliope Staudt, creating music that captivates both seasoned jazz lovers and newcomers alike. Their unique style draws inspiration from jazz icons like Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, and John Coltrane, fused with modern grooves reminiscent of Earth, Wind & Fire.

Formed in December 2023, the band brings together top-tier talent from the University of Central Oklahoma’s jazz scene and Oklahoma City’s vibrant music hubs like 51st Street Speakeasy. Butter and the Genre has graced stages at popular venues like Vast, Othello's of Norman, 51st Street Speakeasy, and The Nigh Center, as well as community spaces like nursing homes and care centers. Their debut album, Music Is Life, is on the horizon, promising to deliver a rich tapestry of sound that embodies jazz, soul, and cross-genre creativity.

More than just a band, Butter and the Genre is a collective of musicians who believe in the power of music to connect, uplift, and inspire. With a growing reputation for engaging performances and a passion for community impact, Butter and the Genre is poised to leave a lasting mark on the jazz world—and beyond.
